Hi, I am Robin Kiley and I founded the community organization of Stand2Serve.
I am a mother, wife, poet, songwriter and attorney. But most importantly, I am a disciple and follower of Jesus Christ. Born and raised in Cincinnati, I was raised with strong, Midwestern values instilled by a loving family. I attended church fairly regular. During my childhood, I wrote an occasional poem at school and liked to write. I thought law school a good career choice. I worked as an attorney for a large law firm, joined the legal department of a Fortune 100 corporation for several years and later worked with my husband in a financial services firm.
I had a nice salary, friends, and career. I fell in love. Had beautiful children, two dogs and a nice home. I was living the American dream. Yet, something was missing. Looking back, it was an authentic, personal relationship with God in the person of Jesus Christ. At this point, God was only a small part of my life - not the purpose of my life. My priorities were upside down.
I knew Jesus Christ and Christianity, but I didn’t have an authentic, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was Lord of the Bible, but not Lord over me. I was still thinking and acting like I was the one in charge.
I depended on myself or others for help or guidance. I thought myself self-sufficient. I would whisper an occasional prayer when things or circumstances got difficult. But once things settled, my thoughts would wax and wane on God. He was a convenient god – one I would fit into my schedule and thoughts as needed. My god was small, not the Creator of the Universe and Lord.
As life moved on, my focus began to narrow on Jesus Christ. I began to ask deeper questions about the meaning of life and our purpose. He was a light drawing me towards Him. I would read scripture. Reflect. I can point to meeting a friend, Patti, as to when my walk with Jesus changed. I met her after a flight from New York City was cancelled. She was smart, friendly and bold. She would share the testimony of her personal relationship with Jesus Christ with anyone. Her faith was refreshing and real. I could see it in the words she chose, her actions and the kindness she shared. As a disciple and follower of Jesus, she was reflecting the very nature of Jesus Christ to me and those around her. Her Jesus was big. He was in every part of her life, not just Sundays..
All of us are mirrors. The big question is what are we reflecting to those around us?
Do we choose to reflect our self or the image we want others to believe and our own desires and ambitions – things the world tell us we need or want? Or do we reflect the Truth and Light of Jesus Christ, our Creator.
It is our hope at Stand2Serve that the music, poetry, essays, artistry and community events and service projects organized by Stand2Serve reflect the Truth and the Majesty of Jesus Christ – our Redeemer and Messiah. Join us as we serve and support our local police, fire, military and veterans and others who may need encouragement and kindness. We believe acts of kindness and compassion done with great love can change our community and our world. Let's reflect the nature of our Lord Jesus Christ in our words and our deeds. Each of us can make a difference if we choose to act.
