Reflections on Father's Day

Let us rejoice in our earthly fathers and our Father in Heaven.
God decreed that fathers have a very unique and special role of leadership in the family. Their most important duty is to instruct and guide the family in God’s laws and ways and to be a model of His Son, Jesus Christ, for the coming generations. In the Old Testament, the Law of Moses was to be written on the doorposts and inscribed on the palms of the Jewish people’s hands and sewn onto articles of clothing as an ever present reminder of one’s duties and responsibilities to live a godly life of service before God. These Old Testament traditions underscore the importance of Godly instruction in our lives from childhood into maturity as the way to live a fruitful and meaningful life before God.
Our earthly fathers are intended to be a reflection of our Heavenly Father in their role of authority and provision, spiritual leadership and instruction in the family, to ensure that future generations inherit the blessings of God’s promises of eternal life. Just as God gave us the Commandments to protect His children from the dangers of sin, so do our earthly fathers provide us with instruction on how we are to live our lives using God’s Word as the proven path to eternal life with God.
As God stated in His Commandments in Deuteronomy 5:16:
Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
If we honor our fathers, God promises us a long life and one that goes well. So let us rejoice in our earthly fathers, pay them the respect and honor their role as leader of our family deserves.
John 3:16-17 reads:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
On Father’s Day, let us praise and give thanks to our Heavenly Father for the gift of our salvation and eternal life. By our faith in the life, sacrifice and resurrection of His Beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Spirit we are beloved sons and daughters in God’s eternal family.
